In a Master of Management course this semester we were offered the opportunity to write additional stanzas to Billy Bragg’s song No Power Without Accountability. This was my “winning”* effort;
You’re forced to provide what your stockholders expect
So you shackle us to a life of debt
Then we can buy the shit you sell
You just don’t realise it’s enslaving you as well
You say we’ll benefit from globalisation
But it only works if you’re a corporation
The forgotten will fight back in any way they can
Right now they’re voting for the crazy man
*I’m not really sure whether there was any competition to speak of… I suspect the other entry from the other class also “won”. I don’t mind, though, the wine was lovely and notebooks are always welcome 🙂
